The College of Pharmacy at the University of Babylon is the first in the province of Babylon; it was founded in 2008, and it is thus one of the most essential sources that provide the country with efficient pharmaceutical cadres that contribute to strengthening health and pharmaceutical services at the clinical level as well as the pharmaceutical industry.

Drug abuse is a major problem worldwide, affecting health, social, economic, and security aspects. The problem is not limited to one type of drug, country, or class of society. Many new compounds have appeared that have a clear effect on the nervous system and the brain, prompting authorities to prepare intensive awareness programs to combat and limit the spread of this phenomenon. The medical group has an important role in addressing this issue, given their direct contact with medical conditions resulting from drug abuse of all kinds. The first scientific forum on drugs and their effects on society was held under the patronage of the President of the University of Babylon, Professor Dr. Qahtan Al-Jubouri. The forum was attended by faculties of the medical group at the University of Babylon, including Professor Dr. Fakher Al-Zubaidi, head of the Educational and Psychological Guidance Unit at the College of Pharmacy. The forum covered various topics related to drugs and their effects, and the role played by academic and educational personnel in limiting the spread of this phenomenon.
